Lake wind advisory in place for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area for Saturday and Sunday — gusts may reach 45 mph

A lake wind advisory was issued by the National Weather Service on Thursday at 1:46 p.m. valid from Saturday 5 a.m. until Sunday Oct. 26, at 5 a.m. for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area.

The NWS Reno NV says to expect, “Southwest winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph and wave heights 2 to 4 feet on Lake Tahoe. Sierra ridge gusts up to 100 mph.”

“Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve,” the NWS said. “Check lake conditions before heading out and be prepared for a sudden increase in winds and wave heights. Consider postponing boating activities on the lake until a day with less wind.”
