SJSU Storylines: SJSU is coming off of its first win of the season against Idaho 31-28…. The Spartans will be looking for their first win at Stanford since a 40-27 win on Sept. 8, 2000… SJSU has a chance to defeat Stanford in back-to-back seasons for the first time since they defeated the Cardinal three times in a row from 1998-2000, all at Stanford…. Kicker Denis Lynch hit the game winning 48-yard field goal against Idaho, his first make of the season after starting the year 0-4 on field goal attempts. … Head coach Ken Niumatalolo confirmed that wide receiver Malachi Riley will be out for the season, the Arizona transfer was expected to play a key role in the offense this season.
Stanford Storylines: Stanford is coming off of a 48-20 loss to Virginia where the defense allowed the most points it has all season…Frank Reich’s Stanford tenure has gotten out to a 1-3 start…. The Cardinal will play its second home game after they have traveled to Hawai’i, Utah and Virginia in the first four weeks of the season and Stanford is expected to travel 23,562 miles during the 2025 season, the second most in FBS….Viriginia Tech and Clemson are the only other team ACC teams with an overall record of 1-3… This is the first time Stanford will host SJSU since Sept. 7, 2013 where Stanford won 34-13.
Stats That Matter: Stanford’s defense allowed 590 total yards and forced no turnovers in a loss to Virginia… This included 384 yards and five touchdowns through the air…..Stanfords pass defense ranks 120th in FBS (275.5 yards allowed per game)… SJSU’s passing offense is ranked 62nd in FBS (239.3 passing yards per game)….Last season SJSU set a school record for 552 passing attempts, which was the third most in FBS….Under Niumatalolo the Spartans are 2-4 on the road…. SJSU ranks 127th in FBS with a turnover margin of -5, the Spartans one turnover against Idaho was their lowest amount of the season. SJSU’s defense has held its opponents to 13-43 on third downs this season… But SJSU allowed Idaho to go 5-5 on fourth down.
