One of the banners that had been hung from the rafters inside the 32-year-old arena this offseason indicated that the Sharks had won the Presidents’ Trophy, which is awarded to the team that finishes atop the NHL regular season standings, in 2015-16. The Sharks won their lone Presidents’ Trophy in 2008-09.

The public first noticed the error, which circulated on social media, on Sunday when the Sharks opened the preseason with a home game against the Vegas Golden Knights. During the game, Sharks president Jonathan Becher said on his X account that the mistake was due to a “printer error” and a replacement banner has been ordered.

A new banner could be in place by next week, a Sharks spokesperson said, although the specific date is unknown.

The Sharks host the Golden Knights in their second preseason game on Friday, play their third and final preseason home game on Oct. 1 against the Anaheim Ducks, then begin the regular season on Oct. 9 at home against the Golden Knights.

Besides the Presidents’ Trophy banner, the Sharks also raised new banners for their Western Conference-winning team in 2015-16 and one banner that listed the six seasons in which the team won the Pacific Division title. The Sharks formerly had banners for each of the six division crowns, the most recent of which came in 2011.
