Wu’s partner reported him missing two days later, after he failed to return home, according to Rohnert Park police. The next day, officers found his vehicle parked off Conzelman Road in the Marin Headlands.
That discovery launched a 120-person search involving Marin County Search and Rescue, the National Park Service, Southern Marin Rescue Team and the U.S. Coast Guard. Crews scoured the area but found nothing.
On May 16, a body that had been in the water for an “extended period of time” washed up on Ocean Beach in San Francisco, police said. The San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office began investigating, noting the remains were “significantly decomposed.”
DNA testing confirmed the body was Wu on Sept. 18. His family has been notified, and Rohnert Park police announced the identification Wednesday.
Rohnert Park police are still investigating Wu’s disappearance and ask anyone with information to call Detective Ashley Freyer at 707-588-3513.
