One of two winners of this month’s $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot has come forward to claim the prize — though without revealing much of who he is.

“I’m going to just do me for a year,” the anonymous winner was quoted as saying in a press release Sept. 22 from the Missouri Lottery. “I’m like a homebody. The perfect day is sitting at home doing what I do – relaxing.”
He did not reveal his age, city of residence or what his occupation was before the big win. He did say that he is married, and that his wife also plans to “reduce her workload” and would probably “drag me out of town.”
The Missouri Lottery said the man chose the one-time payout option, which will come to about $410 million after taxes.
His Quick Pick ticket, bought at a St. Louis gas station, was one of two that matched all numbers in the Sept. 6 drawing. The holder of the other winning ticket, bought in Fredericksburg, Texas, has not come forward.
The biggest U.S. lottery winner ever is Edwin Castro, who claimed a $997.6 million lump sum from a ticket bought in 2022 in Altadena. California is one of the states that requires winners’ names to be revealed.
Castro, who was 30 when he won the jackpot, reportedly bought a Hollywood Hills mansion and luxury cars, as well as an Altadena home for his parents. He prevailed in a lawsuit filed by a Los Angeles gardener who claimed the winning ticket had been stolen from him.
