Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) boys Athlete of the Week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances from Sept. 15-20.

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.

Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

Miles Cheney, Wilcox football: The freshman caught two touchdown passes in Wilcox’s 42-0 win over Santa Clara. Wilcox (2-2) will host Capuchino on Oct. 2. 

Seth Evans, Moreau Catholic football: Evans rushed for three touchdowns in Moreau’s 35-24 win over Balboa-San Francisco. Moreau (2-2) is slated to play at Berkeley next week. 

Henry Hauser, Menlo School cross country: The junior ran the fastest time at the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic, reaching the finish line in 14:22. 

Kirk Humbles III, Alameda football: Humbles ran for a touchdown, caught a touchdown pass and returned an interception for a score to lead Alameda to a 45-21 win over Mt. Diablo. Alameda (4-0) will host Newark Memorial on Friday. 

Gage Jones, Live Oak football: Jones rushed for 210 yards and three scores on 10 carries in Live Oak’s 42-7 victory over Westmont. Live Oak (4-0) visits Pioneer on Friday. 

John Leonard, MacDonald football: Leonard scored a 26-yard pick-six and had two sacks in MacDonald’s 51-14 win over Gunn. MacDonald (3-0) travels to Homestead on Friday. 

Mateo Lortie, Livermore football: Lortie threw for 350 yards and three touchdowns in Livermore’s 40-13 win over Arroyo. Lortie also rushed for two touchdowns for Livermore (4-0), which will travel to Heritage on Friday.

Michael Murphy, Branham football: The senior rushed for 230 yards and five touchdowns on 22 carries to lead Branham to a 56-27 win over Sobrato. Branham (3-1) travels to Piedmont Hills on Friday. 

Elijah Nelson, Benicia football: Nelson threw for two touchdowns to lead Benicia to a 43-7 upset win over Miramonte. Benicia (1-3) is scheduled to host Encinal on Friday. 

Skylar Stuart, Granada football: The sophomore rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries to lead Granada to a 28-13 win over Berkeley. Granada (2-2) will host Las Lomas on Friday.
