Sharks center Macklin Celebrini returns to ice after dealing with illness

SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks center Macklin Celebrini skated again Sunday morning after he was held out of practice the previous two days with an illness.

Celebrini did skill work with development coach Mike Ricci and San Jose Barracuda forward Donovan Houle early Sunday before the start of the fourth day of training camp. Celebrini will not be in the lineup on Sunday when the Sharks host the Vegas Golden Knights at SAP Center in the preseason opener for both teams.

Thursday, Celebrini was sent home by the team’s medical staff after he reported not feeling well following the first day of camp. Celebrini did not skate on Friday or Saturday, but was at the Sharks’ practice facility and attended team meetings.

The Sharks have a team day off on Monday and resume practice on Tuesday. Their next preseason game is on Friday at home, again against the Golden Knights.

Before having to miss Friday and Saturday’s practices, Celebrini was the centerman on a line with Will Smith and Jeff Skinner on the wings.

Celebrini, 19, is coming off a spectacular first season as he finished second among all rookies in both goals (25) and assists (38) and was tied for second in points (63). He also tied for the NHL rookie lead with eight power-play goals, ranked second in both even-strength points (41) and power-play points (22).
