Man shot after dispute near Lake Merritt dies of his wounds

OAKLAND – A man shot earlier this month at his Eastlake apartment complex died Thursday evening, authorities said.

The 56-year-old man’s name has not been released.

The shooting happened about 9:15 p.m. on Sept. 8 at the apartment complex in the 1600 block of Third Avenue, not far from Lake Merritt.

It happened after a dispute involving several people and ended with gunfire, police said.

The wounded man was taken to a hospital where he died Thursday. Police still have not confirmed a motive for the shooting and have not made any arrests.

The killing is the 50th homicide investigated by the Oakland Police Department this year. Last year at this time, police had investigated 68 homicides.
