
OAKLAND – A person was in critical but stable condition after being assaulted Thursday near Lake Merritt in Oakland, police said.

The incident happened just after 11:45 a.m. in the area of Alice Street and 19th Street, according to the Oakland Police Department.
Officers arrived to find the victim suffering from injuries caused by a blunt object, police said.
Paramedics took the victim to an area hospital.
Officers placed one individual under arrest in connection with the incident, police said.
The investigation into the assault is continuing.
