The shooting was reported around 12:15 a.m. on Sept. 13 in the 100 block of Ciolino Avenue, near Del Monte Avenue, according to the Morgan Hill Police Department.

Officers found several bullet casings at the scene and learned the 17-year-old victim had been taken to an area hospital with gunshot wounds, police said. The victim has since been treated and released.

An investigation determined the suspect was standing on the sidewalk when he fired a gun at a car carrying four people, according to police. Surveillance footage captured him running southbound through a nearby apartment complex following the shooting.

The suspect was identified as Giovani Ahumada, 28, of Gilroy, police said. On Thursday, detectives served search warrants at homes in Morgan Hill and Gilroy, and arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Ahumada is being held at the Main Jail in San Jose without bail, according to jail records.

The shooting remains under investigation.
