No. 1 De La Salle 40, No. 8 St. Francis 0
De La Salle, playing on the road in Mountain View, built a 19-0 halftime lead and didn’t look back as it cruised to the non-league victory. Jaden Jefferson scored on a 75-yard run to open the scoring and added a 21-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter. Bubba Vargas‘ interception set up Jefferson’s second touchdown. No. 4 San Ramon Valley 41, No. 12 Clayton Valley Charter 27
Six SRV running backs combined for 225 yards rushing to help lead the Wolves to a nonleague victory on the road. Cole Eichten carried much of the load, finishing with 113 yards in 17 carries and a touchdown. Curtis Pashelka has the complete recap here.
Clovis 41, No. 5 Los Gatos 40
A missed two-point conversion provided the final margin as Los Gatos lost a thriller in the Central Valley. The Wildcats (1-2) trailed by one in the final two minutes and opted to go for the win but were unsuccessful. Callum Schweitzer completed five TD passes for Los Gatos, including a 90-yarder that set the stage for the pivotal missed conversion. Max Thomas caught four of them, including the key long completion. Schweitzer also ran in a score. Gavin Jordan also had a TD catch for the Cats. Los Gatos fell to 1-2, with both losses by similar scores. Soquel beat Los Gatos 42-40 in a season opener. Clovis is 3-1. — Christian Babcock
St. John Bosco-Bellflower 42, No. 7 Serra 0
The Padres slipped to 0-3 for the first time since 2016, losing to Southern California power St. John Bosco. The game was scoreless after one quarter, then the Braves’ roster of Power 4 college conference recruits took over. Bosco (4-0) scored four touchdowns in the second period to take a 28-0 halftime lead. Three-star sophomore quarterback Koa Malau’ulu threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. His first TD pass, just before the half, went to 3-star receiver Carson Clark, who is committed to San Jose State. For Serra, other losses thus far came against Folsom and De La Salle. The Padres are off next week, then open West Catholic Athletic League play Sept. 27 with a visit to Valley Christian. – Mike Lefkow
No. 9 Acalanes 42, No. 11 St. Ignatius 35
After going down three scores in the first half, Acalanes forced three second-half turnovers to come away with a close road win in San Francisco. Quarterback Tyler Winkles tossed two touchdowns passes and rushed for two more. Nathan Canilao was in San Francisco and has the story here.
No. 10 Valley Christian 42, Patterson 11
Valley Christian (2-1) closed out its nonleague slate with a convincing win over visiting Patterson (1-3). QB Rome Leota-Pritchard went 14 of 19 with 263 yards and three TDs. Riley McElvane had six catches for 116 yards and two TDs. LaSavion Carr had three catches for 63 yards and a TD. Troy Calupad carried seven times for 105 yards and a TD. Ekiah McLemore ran eight times for 58 yards and a TD. Isaiah Dominguez had a 33-yard pick-six, and Joseph Patterson had an interception. — Christian Babcock
No. 13 Campolindo 16, Vanden 13
Zach Tabibian kicked a 37-yard field goal with less than two minutes to play to lift Campolindo to a victory at home. The Cougars improved to 3-0. Vanden fell to 3-1. Devin Bradshaw has the game story here.
No. 14 California 35, Monterey Trail-Elk Grove 21
California came away with a big intersectional win on the road, defeating Sacramento area powerhouse Monterey Trail. Quarterback Arjun Banerjee threw for three touchdown passes, two of which went to junior Darius Brown and another to senior Luke Brown. Brown also contributed a rushing score, as did shifty back Jordan Lee. California (3-0) will host Menlo-Atherton on Friday. – Nathan Canilao
No. 15 Menlo School 35, Branham 0
Menlo School defensive lineman Zach Reynolds had a short pick-six early in the game, setting the tone for the Knights’ rout on the road over previously undefeated Branham. Jack Freehill was 9 of 19 for 109 yards passing and gained 129 yards rushing on 13 carries. Chuck Winn gained 103 yards on 12 carries for Menlo. Glenn Reeves has more details here.
No. 20 Archbishop Mitty 35, Menlo-Atherton 0
The visiting Monarchs amassed 28 points in the second period after a scoreless first quarter. Mitty (2-1), coming off a throttling of then ninth-ranked Wilcox 33-20 last week, got a rushing touchdown from Lazaro Faraj-Washington to start the scoring, then a 76-yard punt return from Lucca Edwards and a pair of TD receptions by Caden Kelly in quarter No. 2. Faraj-Washington, who ran for 123 yards and added 62 more yards in receptions, completed the scoring with a rushing TD in the third period. Caden Eagleson led the defense with six tackles. The Monarchs open WCAL play Sept. 26 when they visit St. Ignatius. M-A fell to 0-3, its worst start since 2015, when it also began the season with three straight defeats. – Mike Lefkow
No. 21 Santa Teresa 41, Pioneer 0
Santa Teresa has won its first three games by scores of 42-0, 63-10 and now 41-0, a combined score line of 146-10. All three contests featured running clocks in the fourth quarter. “ST beat us up,” said Pioneer coach Eric Perry, adding that coach Steve Papin “has a good team.” Jaylen Malcom had another big game for Santa Teresa, running in three TDs and compiling 127 yards. He also had 12 receiving yards and snagged an interception. Brian Caldwell also had two TD runs and 65 rush yards. Prince Collins had three catches for 80 yards and a TD. Rich Arechiga had 13 tackles (four for loss), Isaiah Mariscal had seven, AJ Rangel added six tackles and Gavin Plata picked off a pass. — Christian Babcock
No. 22 Wilcox 28, Hollister 3
Wilcox picked up a nice bounce-back win a week after losing to Mitty, routing Hollister (0-2) at home. Quarterback Kai Imahara scored three touchdowns and had 157 yards rushing for the Chargers (1-2). Backfield mate Elijah Vallejo rushed for 116 yards, and Santino Barragan had 12 tackles. Wilcox will continue its nonleague schedule with a home matchup against crosstown rival Santa Clara next week. — Christian Babcock
No. 23 Sacred Heart Prep 37, Half Moon Bay 27
In a non-league victory at Half Moon Bay on Thursday night, senior Maxime Morelle passed for a touchdown, returned an interception for another, rushed for 91 yards on 14 carries, and had a tackle for loss. SHP improved to 2-1. HMB fell to 2-1. David Kiefer has the complete recap here.
East Bay
Deer Valley 54, Berkeley 27
Deer Valley’s strong start to the season continued as the Wolverines rolled at home over Berkeley. Quarterback Adrian Masaniai threw for five touchdowns and Jaylan Bryant had three scores (two receiving, one punt return) in the win. Deer Valley (3-0) will travel to Lincoln-San Francisco next week. Berkeley (0-3) is scheduled to host Granada next week. – Nathan Canilao
Miramonte 40, Montgomery 6
Running backs Charlie Hwang, Jonah Imberg and Harrison Feusier, quarterback Carson Blair and receiver Henry Hunt each ran for a touchdown and George Gilbert caught a TD pass as Miramonte improved to 3-0 with a one-sided victory at home over Montgomery-Santa Rosa (0-3). Linebacker Justin Jalowiec added eight tackles, a sack and a forced fumble and David Roman intercepted a pass for the second consecutive week to lead the defense. Miramonte visits Benicia next Friday. — Darren Sabedra
Monte Vista 48, Antioch 14
The Mustangs took charge early on their home field, building a 20-0 lead after one quarter and 34-0 lead at halftime. Monte Vista gave up just two first downs in the first half and scored the game’s first 41 points. Running back Henry Lasker had over 200 yards from scrimmage for the Mustangs. Monte Vista (2-1) will travel to James Logan next Friday. Antioch (2-1) will play Del Campo in its next game. – Nathan Canilao
South Bay/Peninsula
Bellarmine 61, Los Altos 6
Bellarmine picked up its second win of the season a year after going winless, routing Los Altos at San Jose City College. Jackson Morales threw a second-quarter TD pass to Justin Donahue, Brady Fox ran in a QB keeper and Micah Robinson nailed a field goal to put the Bells (2-1) up 47-6 in the third quarter. Matthew Crafts scored Bellarmine’s next TD to get the Bells over 50 points. Bellarmine will have a week off before beginning WCAL play against Sacred Heart Cathedral, a team that beat the Bells 35-10 in 2024 to seal the San Jose school’s first 0-10 season. — Christian Babcock

Christopher 41, Palo Alto 27
This game between teams in the top divisions of the Blossom Valley Athletic League and Peninsula Athletic League, respectively, ended with the Gilroy team prevailing. Christopher improved to 2-1, while Palo Alto dropped to 0-3. Next up for Christopher is a visit to Willow Glen, last year’s BVAL Santa Teresa-Valley champ. Similarly, Palo Alto will take on lower-division San Mateo as a tuneup for starting PAL Bay Division play in a couple of weeks. — Christian Babcock
Lincoln-San Jose 49, Leland 7
Nine players had at least one carry as the Lions rushed for 244 yards and five touchdowns Thursday in the one-sided win. Jonathan Medina was the leading ball carrier with 88 yards on eight carries and three touchdowns. Kyan Phillips gained 77 yards on 11 carries. Quarterback Luca Papoulias threw seven passes, completing four for 209 yards and two touchdowns, a 67-yarder to Michael Whitelaw and one of 76 yards to Phillips, who also scored on the ground. Leo Molina was 7 of 7 on PATs. Lincoln (3-0), which has scored 135 points in its three games, an average of 45.0 per game, plays at Gunderson on Thursday. Overfelt 12, Saratoga 6
In a game that had everything but a lot of points, Kingston Tagaloa’s 1-yard touchdown run in the second half accounted for the winning margin as the visiting Royals held on for the nonleague victory. The result left both teams’ records at 1-1. Christian Babcock has the game story here.
