McDonald’s will launch new value meals on Monday, Sept. 8

McDonald’s will launch new discount prices that could push a Big Mac meal under $10 on Monday, Sept. 8.

The fast food giant says it is bringing back Extra Value Meals, a concept that McDonald’s launched in 1991 but discontinued in 2019.

Representatives say that prices will be around $6 for a Sausage McMuffin meal and $9 for a Big Mac Meal in “select markets including Southern California.” Other markets may get lower prices. A news release from corporate headquarters in Chicago gives $5 and $8 prices for the same meals.

Nearly all McDonald’s restaurants, about 95%, are owned by independent franchisees, the news release said.

Either way could leave a couple of bucks in your pocket.

Currently a Sausage McMuffin Meal with hash browns and coffee runs about $8.79-$9.29, according to a spot check of Southern California restaurants on the McDonald’s app. A medium Big Mac meal with fries and a soft drink runs about $10.39-$10.99.

Other items in the Extra Value breakfast menu will include Egg McMuffins, Sausage Egg & Cheese McGriddles and Bacon, Egg and Cheese Biscuits, the news release said.

Lunch and dinner items include 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, Quarter Pounders and McCrispy sandwiches.

No prices were quoted for these items.

McDonald’s highly publicized “$5 Meal Deal,” which launched in 2024, is no longer on McDonald’s app and was discontinued last month, according to news reports. Representatives had no comment.

McDonald’s has another promotion beginning Wednesday, Sept. 3. Special Edition Gold Sauce will be available for a limited time at participating restaurants. It will be served with chicken items such as McCrispy sandwiches, McCrispy Strips and Snack Wraps.

A separate news release calls it “a harmonious blend of vinegary North Carolina BBQ sauce infused with notes of honey, smoke and mustard.”
