One dead after overturn crash on Interstate 680 in Pleasant Hill

PLEASANT HILL — A person died Tuesday morning when a vehicle overturned during a freeway crash, the California Highway Patrol said.

The wreck happened about 8:15 a.m. on northbound Interstate 680 at the Monument Boulevard off-ramp.

It was the second fatal crash Tuesday morning on an East Bay freeway. The other one happened on Interstate 580 near the Richmond-San Rafael bridge.

The CHP confirmed initial reports that a vehicle going north on the freeway made an unsafe lane change and wound up on its roof after the crash. The driver appeared to be ejected, the CHP said.

Authorities did not identify the person immediately, pending notification of relatives.

No other details were available immediately.
