FREMONT — Fremont police on Thursday said they safely located a missing teen who had reportedly ran away from home for nearly two weeks.
“We are relieved to share that missing juvenile Katie Hong has been located this afternoon,” police wrote in a news release Thursday. “She is unharmed and safe, pending to be reunited with her family. We are grateful for everyone’s support and assistance during the search. More details will be shared as they become available.”
Police previously said Hong left a note saying she was “running way,” potentially to meet people known only by online screen names. Surveillance footage captured her walking alone from her home on Queens Park Court to Irvington Community Park on July 25.
Police also previously said investigators believed Hong left home voluntarily.
She was reportedly active on multiple digital platforms and used multiple screen names, police said.
Before Thursday, Hong was last seen walking through a gas station at the corner of Blacow Road and Grimmer Boulevard, police said, wearing a large red backpack and carrying what appeared to be a desktop computer.
