79-year-old Monterey County man arrested in death of his wife

CARMEL – The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said it has arrested Donel Mark Geisen, 79, on charges in the slaying of his wife, Barbara Lynn Geisen.

Thursday, an individual believed to be Donel Geisen called 911 to report he had “murdered his wife,” according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies found the Geisens in a bedroom of a home in the 3700 block of Raymond Way in the High Meadows Community of Carmel. Barbara Geisen, 78, appeared to have been stabbed multiple times. She died of her injuries. Donel Geisen also suffered multiple life-threatening stab wounds, although the Sheriff’s Office later said they were self-inflicted. He was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Donel Geisen was subsequently cleared for booking into the Monterey County Jail and his bail was been set at $1 million. The investigation is ongoing.
