San Jose police make arrests in gang-motivated shooting, assaults

SAN JOSE — The San Jose Police Department made arrests in three separate gang-motivated crimes last week, including a shooting, a robbery and a violent attack, authorities said Thursday.

Investigators believe that all three incidents were gang-related, with officers locating gang indicia and discovering alleged gang-related comments in the course of some of the crimes, according to press releases from the SJPD.

On June 18 shortly before 7 p.m., two suspects allegedly drove by Martin Park and fired multiple shots at two victims, authorities said. Both the suspects and the victims fled before police arrived. Investigators determined that the shooting was gang-motivated and allegedly carried out by a 21-year-old San Jose man and a 17-year-old San Jose resident.

Both suspects allegedly have documented gang ties, authorities said.

The shooting occurred near Forestdale Avenue and Jeanne Avenue, an area that is surrounded by residential neighborhoods, authorities added. Police did not say if anybody was wounded.

The two suspects were arrested July 16, authorities said. During the execution of search warrants, authorities found a firearm, live ammunition and gang indicia. The 21-year-old was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail and the 17-year-old was booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of committing the gang-motivated shooting and firearm-related crimes.

The second incident was an alleged gang-motivated attack, carried out May 22 around 5 p.m., authorities said. Police responded to the area of Loma Verde Drive and Winchester Boulevard, where multiple male suspects allegedly approached another man and robbed him. The suspects allegedly made gang-related comments to the man and ran away before police arrived.

Police later identified four men with alleged gang ties as suspects, authorities said. Two of the suspects, a 19-year-old San Jose man and a 18-year-old San Jose man, were arrested July 17 and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of robbery and firearm-related crimes. The other two suspects, a 19-year-old San Jose man and a 16-year-old San Jose resident, were in custody for unrelated incidents.

The third set of arrests were made in an alleged gang-related robbery. On January 8 at 1:20 p.m., multiple male suspects allegedly drove to the 100 block of Graham Avenue, physically assaulted a man until his lost consciousness to and stole his personal belongings, authorities said. Police added that the suspects allegedly made gang-related comments during the robbery before fleeing.

Four suspects — two 24-year-old men, a 21-year-old man and a 15-year-old, all residents of San Jose — were arrested July 16, authorities said. The three adults were booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail and the juvenile was booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
