San Jose: Metal scrap pile fire under control hours after sparking at recycling facility

By Bay City News

A metal scrap pile fire at a recycling facility in San Jose on Friday morning caused a large plume of smoke that could be seen from miles away but has since been declared under control, according to the city’s Fire Department.

Firefighters initially responded at 9:20 a.m. to the facility in the 1900 block of Stone Avenue and used a large aerial apparatus to spray water from above what fire officials said on social media was a “deep-seated” fire in the pile of metal scraps.

The fire was declared under control as of about 11:55 a.m. with no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
