
PALO ALTO — A man died in a single-vehicle collision after his truck swerved off the road and crashed into a tree late Wednesday night, authorities said.
The crash occurred on San Antonio Road near the intersection with Alma Street shortly before midnight, the Palo Alto Police Department said in a news release.
A man in his 50s had been driving westbound on San Antonio Road, swerving across several lanes of traffic, police said. He then drove off the road and crashed into a tree.
The dispatch center received a call reporting the incident at 11:55 p.m., authorities said. The Palo Alto Fire Department responded to the scene, where they located a man in his 50s unconscious in the pickup truck. The man was transported to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision, and they do not yet know whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, they said. No other cars were believed to have been involved.

The road was closed for two hours while police investigated the scene, authorities said. The Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction team worked on the investigation.
The man’s identity will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office pending identification and notifying next of kin.
