The suspect — identified by Sunnyvale authorities as Jesus Aguilera — was taken into custody about a block from the Oakland Police Department while accompanied by an attorney.

Aguilera was booked into Santa Clara County jail on a murder charge, authorities said.

In a news release, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety thanked the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office and the Oakland and San Leandro police departments for their assistance.

The fatal shooting was reported around 7:40 p.m. on May 29 in the 900 block of South Wolfe Road in Sunnyvale. Officers arrived to find a man outside a home suffering from gunshot wounds.

Officers provided medical aid to the victim, but he died of his injuries at the scene.

The victim was identified by family members as Michael Shaheen Rezaee, 40, of Sunnyvale, according to media reports. Aguilera, ABC 7 News reported, was the ex-husband of a woman Rezaee was dating.
