The crash happened just before 3 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Palm Drive and Arboretum Road, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Jovita Ojeda.

The student was rushed to nearby Stanford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A university official identified the student as sophomore Aradshar Chaddar.

Chaddar was born in Maryland and came to Stanford in the fall of 2023 from Pakistan, Vice Provost for Student Affairs Michele Rasmussen said in a message Monday.

Chaddar served as president of the Stanford Democrats and belonged to Alpha Kappa Psi and the Pre-Law Society, according to Rasmussen. He also contributed to the student newspaper.

Rasmussen said Chaddar’s family has been notified.

“We hold Aradshar’s friends, residential community, professors and loved ones in our thoughts as they process this very sad news,” he said, adding that those who need support can contact CAPS 24/7 at 650-723-3785 and the Office for Religious and Spiritual Life.

The driver of the car involved in the collision was not injured and stopped at the scene, Ojeda said.

While the crash remains under investigation, alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as factors, according to Ojeda. No one has been arrested in connection with the case.
