Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) girls Athlete of the Week poll.
For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.
This week, we consider performances from Oct. 13-18.
Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.
Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.

On to the nominees:
Gisele Badilla, Granada flag football: Badilla had eight receptions for 86 yards along with three carries for nine yards in the Matadors’ 14-7 win over Livermore. She also played stellar defense with five tackles (four solo, one assisted) and two key sacks, which helped her team earn a spot in the playoffs.
Alice Darrin Bascomb, Pittsburg water polo: The junior had two goals and three assists in a 15-4 win over Justin-Siena, three goals and an assist in an 8-7 loss to Woodcreek, five goals and two assists in a 13-6 win over Napa, seven goals and one assist in a 17-16 loss to Vintage and six goals and three assists in a 18-10 win over Piedmont.
Chloe Gilbert, Castro Valley water polo: The senior scored seven goals and had a pair of assists as Castro Valley beat California 18-11. She added six goals and an assist in a 10-6 win over College Park. She also had three goals in a loss to Liberty, two in a loss to Alameda and a goal and an assist in a loss to Santa Cruz.
Jamie Johnson, Menlo School volleyball: The junior setter posted 20 assists and 10 aces as Menlo closed out a 25-22, 25-11, 25-18 win over Mercy and improved to 5-3 in WBAL play.
Carrie Lee, Wilcox tennis: The freshman went undefeated at No. 1 singles last week, toppling her opponent from Palo Alto 6-1, 7-5 and beating her counterpart from Milpitas 6-2, 6-1.
Elise Matek, California water polo: The senior scored seven goals and had three assists in a 12-7 win over Berkeley, adding five goals and a pair of assists in a 13-1 win over Livermore. She added eight goals in a 12-11 loss to Harker, three goals and four assists in an 18-11 loss to Clayton Valley and three goals and an assist in a 12-9 loss to Castilleja.
Ameena Mohammed, Carlmont flag football: In wins over Burlingame and No. 3 California, Mohammed compiled 110 yards rushing on only four carries and two touchdowns. She was also a lockdown defender at linebacker with 10 tackles on a defense that allowed only six points in both games and held California to zero points.

Makena Myers, College Park water polo: The senior scored five goals in a 10-5 win over Dublin. She added a pair of goals in a win over Concord and a 12-10 loss to Clovis East, also scoring two against Del Oro and adding a goal and an assist in a loss to Castro Valley.
Azaria Nelson, James Logan volleyball: The senior posted 12 kills and hit .588 as Logan swept Mission San Jose 3-0 in a Mission Valley Athletic League battle. She added seven aces, four blocks and one dig.
Sofie Zlobinsky, Hillsdale water polo: Zlobinsky scored 10 goals and had an assist as Hillsdale beat Notre Dame-Belmont 16-15. She added two goals and an assist in a loss to Valley Christian, then had nine goals and two assists in a 14-11 win over Mountain View. She added three goals and two assists in a loss to Aptos. The freshman is second in the Central Coast Section in goals scored, according to data reported to MaxPreps.
