Vote now: Bay Area News Group boys athlete of the week

Editor’s note: We prohibit the use of bots and any other artificial methods of voting. Suspicious activity could lead to the disqualification of candidates and a permanent suspension of the Athlete of the Week poll. No voting by email: Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Also note: Public display of the results is capped at 50,000 votes. If the poll surpasses 50,000 votes, we will keep track of the results internally. 

Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) boys Athlete of the Week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances from Oct. 6-11.

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.

Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

On to the nominees:

Oliver Canniffe, Burlingame water polo: The senior scored five goals, dished out three assists and had three steals in Burlingame’s 22-9 win over Hillsdale. Burlingame is 11-6, 5-1. 

Elijah Delgado, Livermore football: Delgado kicked in the go-ahead field goal from 36 yards away in Livermore’s 22-21 win over Dublin. Livermore is 6-1, 1-0. 

Reid Habas, Campolindo football: Habas completed 16-of-23 passes for 229 yards and three scores to lead Campolindo to a 28-21 win over Monte Vista. Campolindo is undefeated through six games and will travel to rival Acalanes this Friday. 

Yasser Jackson, Oakland football: The Colorado State commit had 11 tackles, a sack and an interception in the Wildcats’ 48-0 win over Skyline. He also had two touchdown catches and a 60-yard punt return touchdown for Oakland, which is now 5-1, 1-0. 

Motu Keanaaina, St. Francis football: The junior scored the go-ahead touchdown in St. Francis’ 20-19 comeback victory against Archbishop Mitty. St. Francis (2-4, 2-0) has won back-to-back games after starting the year 0-4. 

Jason Miles, De Anza football: Miles caught seven passes for 95 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Dons to a 28-7 win over Pinole Valley. Miles also had two interceptions, five tackles and recorded 185 all-purpose yards for De Anza, which is now 2-3, 1-1. 

Ricky Miramontes, Milpitas football: Miramontes knocked in a 27-yard field goal in triple overtime to lead Milpitas to a stunning 31-28 victory over Half Moon Bay. Milpitas is 4-2, 1-0. 

Palmer Riley, Menlo School football: The senior had six tackles – two behind the line of scrimmage – two sacks, an interception and a pass deflection in Menlo’s 37-7 win over Menlo-Atherton. Menlo is undefeated through six games. 

Robert Saulny-Green, Jefferson football: Saulny-Green rushed for two touchdowns to lead Jefferson to a 41-20 win over MacDonald. Jefferson is 4-2, 3-0. 

Michael Stone, Pittsburg water polo: Stone had five goals, three assists and five steals to lead Pittsburg to a 15-3 win over Amador-Sutter Creek at the Bear Creek Tournament.
