No. 3 Pittsburg 55, Heritage 7
The Pirates cruised at home past Heritage in their first Bay Valley Athletic League opener, building a 41-point lead by halftime. Quarterback Carlos Torres completed 10-of-11 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore QB Javale Jones passed for 137 yards and two scores and added a rushing touchdown. R.J. Mosley led the Pirates with five catches for 79 yards and two touchdowns. King Wade, Ramire Lewis, Jacob Guirguis and Isaiah Harrison each caught a touchdown pass. Jari Alexander added a 30-yard rushing touchdown. Pittsburg (5-1, 1-0) travels to Liberty next Friday. Heritage fell to 0-6, 0-1. – Nathan Canilao
No. 4 Acalanes 21, Miramonte 10
Miramonte chewed up a lot of clock, keeping Acalanes’ offense on the sideline, but it wasn’t enough to upset the visiting Dons (7-0, 1-0) in this Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division opener. Deonte Littlejohn’s 1-yard touchdown run accounted for Acalanes’ only first-half TD as the Dons had just two possessions in the opening 24 minutes, the first ending on a goal-line stand. Leading 7-3 at halftime, Acalanes stretched its advantage to 14-3 when Tyler Winkles hit Sean Tandler from 3 yards out. Miramonte (4-3, 0-1) cut the margin to 14-10 with six minutes left on a 23-yard pass from Carson Blair to Andrew Bjornson. But Acalanes responded as Josh Elerts’ running helped set up Winkles’ 20-yard pass to Kyler Roberts to make it 21-10 with 2:06 left. George Gilbert had five receptions for 80 yards and eight tackles to lead Miramonte. Harrison Feusier and David Roman made impressive open-field tackles to slow down Acalanes’ screen attack, and Tres Buster added a fourth-quarter sack. — Darren Sabedra
No. 6 Los Gatos 47, Sacred Heart Prep 0
Los Gatos (3-3, 1-0) took out its frustrations from three close nonleague losses to blast Sacred Heart Prep (4-2, 0-1) in a Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division Opener. The Wildcats led 33-0 at halftime. Grayson Doslak got the scoring started with an 11-yard run. Devonte Troutt scored two rushing touchdowns. Max Thomas and Beau Musser caught touchdown passes from Callum Schweitzer and Shane Harmer caught one in the second half from backup QB Liam Sullivan. Lane Newman returned a blocked punt for another score. — Glenn Reeves.
No. 7 San Ramon Valley 41, Amador Valley 14
Tied 14-14 on the road at halftime, San Ramon Valley erupted in the second half, scoring touchdowns on three of its first four offensive plays to defeat Amador Valley in an East Bay Athletic League Mountain Division opener. Cole Dawes threw touchdown passes to Dietrick Burks Jr. and Colton Fitzgibbon and Xavier O’Guinn scored on a 75-yard run to break the game open. In the first half, Cassius Ryan had a 35-yard TD run and Owen Power returned a kickoff for a score for SRV (5-2, 1-0). Power also had a second-half interception as SRV’s defense raised its level of play after halftime. “Overall it was a good win in all three phases of the game,” SRV coach Aaron Becker said. Amador Valley dropped to 2-5, 0-1. — Darren Sabedra
No. 10 Campolindo 28, No. 16 Monte Vista 21
After surrendering 21 first-half points, Campolindo shut out the host Mustangs in the second half to win the nonleague game. Quarterback Reid Habas completed 16-of-23 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns to lead Campo. Nathan Canilao was in Danville and has the story here.
No. 15 Valley Christian 64, Bellarmine 0
Valley Christian led 21-0 after the first quarter and 43-0 at halftime as it became the latest team to roll over Bellarmine in WCAL play. Ekiah McLemore ran for 238 yards and three touchdowns in 17 carries and Troy Calupad added 68 yards and two TDs in 10 attempts to lead the onslaught against the visiting Bells. Munachi Elias also carried 10 times, finishing with 83 yards and a TD. Demetrius Johnson scored a TD and had a 75-yard run and Riley McElvane caught three passes for 66 yards and had an interception. Valley improved to 3-3, 1-2. Bellarmine is 2-4, 0-3. — Darren Sabedra
No. 19 Salesian 47, Vallejo 14
Izeah Buchanan passed for two touchdowns and ran for one and Isaiah Latigue rushed for two TDs to lead Salesian past host Vallejo in a Tri-County Athletic League Rock Division opener. Carlton Perrilliat Jr. and Jahlil Lindsey were on the receiving end of Buchanan’s touchdown passes. Darius Bright and Tyler Sadler added rushing touchdowns as Salesian ran its record to 6-0, 1-0. No. 24 Clayton Valley 63, Las Lomas 7
Fresno State-bound running back Jhadis Luckey turned in another stellar performance, rushing for five touchdowns to lead Clayton Valley to a dominant win over Las Lomas in a Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division matchup. Defensive back Andre Watts had two interceptions and a kickoff return touchdown. Dion Lew-Beverly added two rushing scores. Clayton Valley improved to 3-3, 1-0 and will host Miramonte next week. Las Lomas dropped to 5-2, 1-0. – Nathan Canilao
Lincoln-San Jose 35, No. 25 Branham 25
Jonathan Medina had a career game with 17 carries for 179 yards and two touchdowns and star running back Kyan Phillips had another in a string of standout games with 112 yards on 20 carries and one touchdown to lead Lincoln (6-0, 1-0) past Branham (4-2, 0-1) in a BVAL Mt. East Bay
Bishop O’Dowd 55, Berkeley 12
O’Dowd won its third straight WACC Foothill Division game, routing rival Berkeley. Lamar Ellis rushed for two touchdowns and quarterback Matteo Tarantino threw for two more for the host Dragons. Defensive back Ambrose Carroll had a pick-six. Elliot Gerbelot led Berkeley with a rushing touchdown. O’Dowd is 4-3, 3-0. Berkeley dropped to 2-5, 2-1. – Nathan Canilao
Hayward 63, Piedmont 7
Jaydyn Irving threw for 220 yards and three touchdowns as Hayward breezed to victory on the road over Piedmont to open WACC Mission Division play. Lamont McDonald was Irving’s primary target as the junior caught seven passes for 147 yards and all three of the quarterback’s touchdowns. Maurice Hall had nine carries for 105 yards and three TDs, Malachi Ferguson returned a kickoff for a score and Isiah Spearman and Tywan Melrose each had a touchdown for Hayward (3-3, 1-0). Irvington 21, Washington-Fremont 16
In a game that effectively ended twice, Irvington closed out its crosstown rivals with back-to-back red zone stops late in the fourth quarter. The Vikings’ mistakes on a late kneel-down sequence created another opening for Washington to get a chance to win the game. Christian Babcock was in Fremont and has the story here.
Livermore 22, Dublin 21
Elijah Delgado kicked the go-ahead field goal from 36 yards out with four minutes to go as Livermore narrowly beat Dublin in an East Bay Athletic League Valley Division showdown. The Cowboys trailed by nine late in the third quarter, but rallied in the final period to secure a league-opening win. Livermore’s Mateo Lortie threw for two touchdowns. Dublin running back Andre Armendariz had two rushing touchdowns, and Tiras Campbell ran 88 yards for a score. Livermore improved to 6-1 and will play Redwood Christian at Emerald High in Dublin next week. Dublin dropped to 3-4. – Nathan Canilao
South Bay/Peninsula
Christopher 27, Leigh 17
Christopher led for a combined 13 seconds, including eight seconds in the fourth quarter, as it began defense of its BVAL Mt. Hamilton title. The Cougars (4-2, 1-0) trailed 17-7 at the half and deep into the fourth quarter before Dylan Robinson found Ethan Vernon for a big gainer that set up Adrian Leon’s TD run. The Cougars still trailed 17-14 until they forced a three-and-out after an unsuccessful onside kick, then Robinson hit Vernon for two more big catches, including the game-winner with eight ticks to play. On Leigh’s ensuing drive, Dominic Marini strip-sacked QB Charlie Lyon, and Jared Rodriguez picked up the fumble and ran it back for the game-ending score. Kasen Pauneto scored Christopher’s first TD in the second quarter. Aiden Swann’s pick set up the scoring opportunity. Blake Zanger (4-yard run), Miles Huntington (92-yard kickoff return) and Ashkan Sahba (25-yard FG) scored for Leigh. — Christian Babcock
Gunderson 31, Leland 13
Gunderson picked up its first win as a member of the BVAL’s Santa Teresa-Valley Division with a solid victory over Leland, last season’s Central Coast Division V champion. The Grizzlies (5-1, 1-0) led 24-7 after three quarters and withstood a fourth-quarter TD from Leland to finish the victory, even blocking the ensuing extra point. Gunderson closed out the game with a TD pass and an interception defensively. Dylan Ripetto and Sam McFarland scored the TDs for Leland (1-5, 0-1). — Christian Babcock

Independence 41, San Jose 16
Independence made a statement in earning its first win in BVAL West Valley Division play. The 76ers (2-4, 1-2) got three rushing TDs from Alex Aspiras and three passing TDs from Gurshawn Randhawa. Kaleo Garcia, Favian Raya and Jessiah Ameral had TD catches. Defensively, Marcus D’Augustino and Kyler Balanga had fumble recoveries, while Kaleo Garcia snagged an interception. Augustine Cortes and Roman Rodriguez scored TDs for San Jose (3-3, 2-1). “Very proud of how the boys played,” Independence coach Jay Braun said. “Created some turnovers and executed well on offense. Jefferson 41, MacDonald 20
Robert Saulny-Green rushed for two touchdowns to help Jefferson (4-2, 3-0) gain the upper hand in the Peninsula Athletic League Lake Division standings with the win over previously undefeated MacDonald. Dominic Howard‘s 1-yard run and two-point conversion got the scoring started with an 8-0 lead. Kendrick Carr scored on a 50-yard fumble return and Yazan Janhib on a 40-yard interception return. Moussa Fall threw two TD passes for MacDonald (5-1, 2-1) and Nate Pulickial scored on a run. — Glenn Reeves
Piedmont Hills 27, Overfelt 6
Diego Arias caught three touchdown passes from John Palomo and Alijah Torres ran 43 yards for a TD to lead Piedmont Hills to a victory at Overfelt in a BVAL Santa Teresa-Foothill Division opener. Arias’ touchdown receptions were from 80, 32 and 15 yards out. Piedmont Hills improved to 3-3, 1-0. Overfelt fell to 2-4, 0-1. — Darren Sabedra
Pioneer 21, Silver Creek 6
Braeden Ries completed 11 of 15 passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns to Connor Christensen to lead Pioneer to the win in the BVAL Santa Teresa-Foothill Division opener. Colton Bermillo added a rushing touchdown for Pioneer (3-3, 1-0). Bermillo also had a team-high 12 tackles, nine solo. Haden Beckles had 11 tackles, nine solo, and Joshua Fisher was in on 10 tackles. Adam Larson, Matthew Wheeler, Dominic Pena and Jacob Bergeron had sacks. Jordan Thompson carried 20 times for 95 yards, Jayden Jenkins caught seven passes for 100 yards and Saxton Sinatra kicked two field goals for Silver Creek (3-3, 0-1). — Glenn Reeves.
San Mateo 35, Mountain View 21
The rout was on as San Mateo took a 35-7 lead over Mountain View in the fourth quarter and hung on to secure the win in PAL De Anza play. Lukas Fitzgerald had 20 carries for 126 yards and a TD. Jovani Hernandez Cruz carried 18 times for 124 yards and two TDs. As a team, San Mateo (4-2, 1-0) rushed for 380 yards and passed for 15. Dom Kristof, Micah Perkins and Ishan Devarapalli scored the TDs for Mountain View (2-4, 1-1). — Christian Babcock
The King’s Academy 45, Burlingame 7
KA routed Burlingame in a PAL De Anza Division opener behind three TD passes from Ricky Gutierrez, who passed for 230 yards. Adrian Barnett, Aaron Duncan and Jaiden Flores caught Gutierrez’s TD throws for the Knights (5-1, 1-0). TKA’s defense generated three interceptions, one of which was a pick-six by Justin Turner. “Defense did a great job getting to the QB,” TKA coach Dante Perez said. Woodside 31, Hillsdale 0
Dual-threat quarterback JJ Lange scored the first two touchdowns on Thursday and all-purpose back Daniel Torres scored another and had two interceptions as Woodside (6-0, 1-0) rolled on the road over Hillsdale (2-4, 0-1) to open PAL Ocean Division play. David Kiefer has the game story here.
