
PALO ALTO — Police are investigating a fatal vehicle crash that claimed one victim on a street in Palo Alto near Stanford University.
The fatal crash involved a single pickup truck that was traveling northbound on Alma Street near the University Avenue overcrossing, Palo Alto police said.
Palo Alto police received a report at 11:57 p.m. Saturday regarding a major injury collision at that location, which is a few blocks from Stanford University.
“Officers and personnel from the Palo Alto Fire Department responded immediately and located a man in his 40s unconscious in a pickup truck,” Palo Alto police stated in a prepared release.
Emergency crews extricated the man from the pickup truck and transported him to a local hospital. At the hospital, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that the pickup truck was traveling northbound on Alma Street when the truck left the roadway and collided with the elevated median,” Palo Alto police stated.
Police didn’t immediately disclose the victim’s identity. Police believe no other vehicle was involved in the crash.
“At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor,” police stated. “The cause of the collision remains under investigation.”
