San Ramon man charged with attempted murder after two road rage shootings involving same victim

DUBLIN — A San Ramon man has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly firing at the same motorist twice over two days, with both incidents involving road rage, according to police.

Richo Olive Crouch Richardson III, 19, was charged with attempted murder, shooting at an occupied car and carrying a loaded firearm in public, court records show. He is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and pleaded not guilty.

A preliminary hearing is set for October, court records show.

Richardson is a suspect in shootings on Aug. 13 and Aug. 15, both involving the same victim, who escaped injury both times. The man didn’t bother to tell police about the incidents until after the second shooting; police say that after Richardson allegedly shot at him on Interstate 580 in Dublin during the first road rage incident, the victim assumed that maybe it was a case of mistaken identity, and didn’t want to be labeled a “snitch.”

Two days later, the same man saw Richardson’s Mercedes pass by him at a gas station in Dublin, ran for his car, and began following Richardson around town. Richardson allegedly got ahead of the other man’s BMW, parked his Mercedes, got out, and fired at the Mercedes when it approached, causing the driver to speed off, according to police. After that incident, the man reported both shootings to police.

Dublin police went looking for Richardson at his San Ramon home the following day. Authorities say his mother was uncooperative but that they asked his grandmother to encourage him to turn himself in, which he did on Aug. 18, court record show.

In September 2023, as a 17-year-old boy, Richardson was a suspect in a San Ramon shooting with a particularly petty alleged motive. The victim in that case reported that he drove by Richardson and others, rolled down the window, and stuck his tongue out at the group in a childish taunt. Richardson allegedly responded by shooting up the car in a Safeway parking lot. He was also listed as a suspect in an incident three days earlier, after allegedly punching a man in the head during an argument about speeding in a Walgreen’s parking lot, court records show.

Richardson was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a firearm, and mayhem, but it’s unclear if he was ever charged as a juvenile, and the criminal complaint in the Dublin shooting case gives no indication that he has a prior felony conviction.

Richardson’s father, Richo Olive Crouch Richardson II, of Napa, was identified as the victim of a Vallejo homicide in 2019. Police never announced any arrests.
