I was blown away when I stopped to visit the Serbian Food Festival at 18870 Allendale Ave. It was a joyous, happy, delicious event and an incredible success, attracting more 2,000 visitors for traditional food, live music, activities and family-friendly fun.

“Many Saratoga streets were named after Serbians who arrived here in the late 1800s,” Jelena Vukicevic says.

The final Saratoga Nights event of 2025 is set for Oct. 2, 5-8 p.m. Enjoy live music, wine and beer tents and a lively atmosphere in the historic Saratoga Village along Big Basin Way. It’s a great opportunity to support local businesses and connect with the community.

The State of the City event at Argonaut School last Saturday was declared a huge success. City Manager Matt Morley said, “Over 500 children and their families came for the Safe Routes to School event that provided helmet fittings and giveaways, an obstacle course for young riders learning to ride, and a bicycle fix-it station. It demonstrated that Saratoga wants safe pathways, so that every child can walk or bike to school with confidence.”

Service organizations like Saratoga Rotary, Friends of the Library, the Saratoga Historical Museum and others were on hand to provide information and attract volunteers.

Mayor Belal Aftab’s State of the City address stressed encouraging residents to prepare for emergencies and connect with their neighbors. If you missed the address, you can talk to Aftab at his “office” at the Saratoga Farmers’ Market Oct. 4, 10 a.m.-noon.
