
SAN JOSE — A motorcyclist died in a collision with a minivan in East San Jose over the weekend, police said.
The crash was reported at 12:19 a.m. Saturday near Ocala Avenue and Ridgemont Drive, between East Capitol Expressway and South White Road, according to the San Jose Police Department.
An initial investigation determined that a woman driving a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica was turning left from Ridgemont onto westbound Ocala, putting her in the path of a man headed east on a 2024 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle.

The rider crashed into the minivan; he was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office identified him as Matthew Ryan Atangan, 24, of San Jose.
Police said the minivan driver stopped at the crash site and was treated at a hospital with what were described as non-life threatening injuries. There is no indication that she was cited or arrested.
The collision marked San Jose’s 26th roadway death of the year; the city had recorded 38 traffic deaths at the same point in 2024. Saturday’s collision was the year’s second crash involving a motorcyclist who died, according to data compiled by this news organization.
