The collision occurred at the intersection of Woodside Road and Veterans Boulevard, according to the Redwood City Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the area at 12:11 a.m. after a woman was reported to be lying on the ground after being hit by a vehicle, authorities said.

Police found the victim, a 32-year-old woman, unconscious and without a pulse about 100 feet east of the intersection, authorities said. Officers began CPR, which was later taken over by medical personnel. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at Stanford Medical Center.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office.

The driver told police that he had been eastbound on Woodside Road in the direction of Highway 101 when he went through the intersection on a green light and heard an impact, authorities added. When the driver pulled over, he found he had struck a pedestrian, police said.

A witness, who had been walking with the victim at the time of the collision, told police that he was walking ahead of her as they crossed Woodside Road southbound from Veterans Boulevard. He told police he looked back and saw the vehicle hit the woman.

The witness said that the victim had been walking in a crosswalk with the cross signal, and that he did not believe that the traffic light changed before she was struck, according to police.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the collision site and was cooperative with police, authorities said. Investigators determined the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs after the driver submitted a blood draw and preliminary alcohol screening test, police said.

Police towed the driver’s vehicle to the police department as evidence, authorities added.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with further information is asked to contact the RCPD Traffic Unit at 650-780-7100.
