Gunfire in East Oakland kills 29-year-old woman

OAKLAND — A 29-year-old woman died after gunfire broke out in East Oakland on Monday night, police said.

Authorities did not identify the woman immediately, pending notification of relatives. Officers found her down after responding to a gunshot detection system notification in the 1400 block of 87th Avenue about 6:10 p.m.

She died at the scene.

The homicide is the 51st one investigated by Oakland police in 2025. At this time last year, police had investigated 68 homicides in the city.

Police have not said what they believe the motive to be and have not announced any arrests. They did not identify any suspects.
