Scratchers score $15 million in lottery jackpots for two East Bay winners

Two winners scored jackpots worth $15 million from lottery scratchers bought from vendors in the East Bay this week, according to the California Lottery.

After two Powerball players in Missouri and Texas split the second largest jackpot in history in last week’s draw, this week it was two scratchers that won big in Oakland and Fremont.

Luis Briseno won $10 million from a winning Royal Riches scratcher bought at Fruitvale Bottles & Liquor at 3715 International Blvd. in Oakland, the lottery said Friday. That’s the largest recent jackpot in the state since June, when an unnamed winner scored a $10 million win from a scratcher bought in Barley Bin Liquor in Whittier, and Steven Muhlestein won a $10 million Super Bonus in May from a scratcher sold at Vintage Wine Shoppe & Liquor in Concord.

Another winner, Catalina Velasco, emerged with a $5 million prize this weekend after buying a Double the Luck scratcher from Arco am/pm at 43500 Grimmer Blvd. in Fremont, the lottery said Friday.

When winners last week raked in the $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot prize, two Californians earned $1.5 million each after guessing the five white ball numbers on tickets sold at Love’s Travel Shop in Tehachapi and Circle K in Dublin. The largest Powerball jackpot in history was won in California on Nov. 7, 2022, for $2.04 billion

Saturday night marked another Powerball drawing for a $50 million jackpot. On Tuesday, residents have a chance to win up to $400 million in the Mega Millions draw.
