Pedestrian killed in downtown Oakland traffic collision

OAKLAND — A woman died Thursday morning from injuries suffered when she was struck by a box truck while crossing a downtown street, authorities said.

Authorities were trying to confirm her name.  She was believed to be in her 80s and an Oakland resident, police said.

The collision happened about 8:45 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Broadway and Eighth Street, a block from police headquarters.

Police said the woman was in a marked crosswalk walking westbound across Broadway when she was struck by a box truck making a turn from westbound Eighth Street onto southbound Broadway.

The woman was taken to a hospital where she later died.

The truck driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with police in their investigation.
