
Santa Rosa police are investigating a homicide after a woman and a dog were found shot to death inside a home early Tuesday, authorities said.

Officers responded to a house on Cecilia Drive near Third Street, west of Highway 101, around 4:30 a.m. after neighbors reported hearing gunfire.
When they arrived, they found an open back gate and a shattered sliding glass door. Deputies with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office used a drone to look inside and saw one dog dead and another wounded.
Police then entered the home and found a woman lying on the stairs with at least one gunshot wound. She died at the scene.
No suspect or gun was found, but detectives said they believe the killing was targeted and said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
In scanner audio reviewed by The Press Democrat, a neighbor reported hearing gunshots, glass breaking and a woman screaming, “Oh my God.” They also told police they saw a man running from the home.
This is the 10th homicide in Santa Rosa so far this year.
Police ask anyone with information to call their tip line at 707-543-3590. A $2,500 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
