Walnut Creek man, 77, arrested for allegedly attempting to hug and kiss neighbor

WALNUT CREEK — A resident was arrested on suspicion of battery and violating his probation for allegedly attempting to hug and kiss a woman through her open car window, authorities said.

Mohammed Shaikh, 77, a registered sex offender living in Walnut Creek, was arrested last month after the woman identified him from a photo lineup. Police say that on July 26, the woman was leaving her apartment on Sunne Lane when Shaikh came up behind her, blocking her only path out of her parking spot, then went around to the car and introduced himself.

When he went for an unsolicited kiss, the woman was able to swat his hand away, but he grabbed her shoulder in the process, according to authorities. After the woman reported it and identified Shaikh from a photo lineup, a misdemeanor arrest warrant was issued.

Shaikh has had several arrests for lewd behavior, sometimes involving children, since 1970. His most recent conviction, in 2024 for misdemeanor sexual battery and false imprisonment, resulted in a 364-day jail term and a two-year probation sentence, according to court records. Shaikh has not yet been charged in connection with this incident, court records show.
