Man stabbed in Oakland, suspect arrested

OAKLAND — A man was stabbed in the chest Wednesday morning and a suspect was arrested after a foot chase by police, authorities said.

The man was in stable condition at a hospital. His age was not immediately available.

The stabbing happened about 11:56 a.m. Wednesday in the  600 block of Oakland Avenue north of Interstate 580, not far from the Piedmont Avenue area.

Initial police reports were that the man was stabbed with a small knife after getting into a confrontation with another man. It was not immediately known if the two men knew each other or what the confrontation was about.

After the stabbing the suspect tried to flee on foot but was captured by police on nearby Moss Avenue, authorities said. He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. His name was not immediately released.
