Here, you’ll find all the details from the weekend’s action in this news organization’s coverage area, which encompasses teams that play in leagues based primarily in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.

No. 1 De La Salle 10, Lakeland-Florida 6

DLS trouble moving the ball against an uber-athletic Lakeland team, but a big night from junior star Duece Jones-Drew lifted the Spartans to a season-opening win at home. Nathan Canilao was in Concord and has the story here

Cathedral Catholic-San Diego 35, No. 4 St. Francis 7

St. Francis had a rough season opener as future Cal quarterback Brady Palmer passed for 201 yards in the first half and completed 12-of-18 for 260 yards in the game to lead Cathedral Catholic to a dominant road win. David Kiefer has all the details from Mountain View here.

No. 6 San Ramon Valley 20, No. 20 El Cerrito 14

In his first varsity start, junior quarterback Cole Dawes threw two touchdown passes to Xavier O’Guinn – one of which went for 70 yards – to lead SRV to a season-opening win over El Cerrito. Junior Joseph Buenavista sealed the win with an interception in the fourth quarter. “The defense was stout all night,” coach Aaron Becker said. Next week, El Cerrito (0-1) will host Lowell-San Francisco while the Wolves will travel to Soquel. – Nathan Canilao

No. 8 Valley Christian 41, No. 9 Wilcox 10

Leading 6-3 at halftime, Valley Christian turned all five third-quarter Wilcox turnovers into touchdowns as the Warriors turned the matchup at home into a rout. Sophomore quarterback Rome Leota-Pritchard needed to complete only six of his 12 passes to throw for a pair of touchdowns and 172 yards. Even Webeck has the complete story here.

San Marin 27, No. 14 St. Ignatius 24

Playing their first game under new coach JaJuan Lawson, the Wildcats made a gallant comeback with two touchdowns in the game’s final 8:14, but it wasn’t enough. Trailing 27-10 going to the fourth quarter, quarterback Caedon Afsharipour threw a pair of touchdown passes to Zui Shelton to turn this contest into a nailbiter. The first TD cut San Marin’s lead to 27-16, but St. Ignatius missed the 2-point conversion. The Wildcats got back in the end zone less than four minutes later when Afsharipour and Shelton hooked up for a 7-yard TD pass, and San Marin’s lead was cut to three points when Idaho State commit Ty Hicks caught the 2-point conversion. But that turned out to be all the scoring. SI led at halftime on a 4-yard run by Steve Malone and a 30-yard field goal by Thomas McKeon. But San Marin scored three unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter, which proved to be the difference. – Mike Lefkow

No. 16 Acalanes 33, Archbishop Mitty 12

Playing in honor of Amin Noroozi, the 17-year-old Acalanes student and football player who died in April after a swimming accident, the Dons got the better of Mitty on opening night. Acalanes safety Grant Ricker grabbed three interceptions and caught one touchdown. Dons QB Tyler Winkles threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns, and Finley Rivera caught six passes for 153 yards and a TD while Josh Elerts ran for 50 yards and two scores. Lazaro Faraj-Washington carried the ball 23 times for 119 yards for Mitty, and Kai Sniffen caught a touchdown pass from Joseph Engin. Next week, the Monarchs (0-1) will play host to Wilcox, while Acalanes will stay at home to face Menlo-Atherton. Joseph Dycus has the full story here.

No. 17 Campolindo 42, Granada 7

Campolindo lit up the scoreboard at the Livermore school as the Cougars got their season off and rolling in a rematch of the 2017 North Coast Section Division II championship game – a contest that also ended in a 42-7 victory for Campo. Running back Micah Parker rushed for 107 yards on eight carries and found the end zone once on a two-yard score. Everett Zellmer caught seven passes for 104 yards and a touchdown, and Sean Parker had a 95-yard kickoff return to go along with an interception. Tight end Damien Miles scored Granada’s lone touchdown as the Matadors fell to 0-1. – Nathan Canilao

No. 20 Santa Teresa 42, Fremont-Sunnyvale 0

The Bay Area News Group’s preseason BVAL Mt. Hamilton Division favorite got off to a strong start in nonleague play. In his first Santa Teresa start, Andrew Hill transfer Sal Guerrero completed 10 of 12 passes for 211 yards and two TDs. RB Jaylen Malcom ran for 162 yards on eight carries and had TDs of 55 and 62 yards. WR AJ Rangel caught four passes for 142 yards and an 85-yard score. Rich Arechiga had 10 tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery. SS Rocco Saole had nine tackles. Rangel had seven tackles, a sack and a forced fumble. Linebacker Isaiah Mariscal had six tackles and a sack. Santiago Toledo, the replacement for departed “Cowboy Kicker” Casey Carr, went 6 for 6 on PATs. — Christian Babcock   

Hayward 35, No. 25 Moreau Catholic 14 

The Farmers stunned the visitors with a pair of touchdowns in the final minute of the first half to break a 14-14 tie. Malachi Ferguson raced 30 yards to give Hayward the lead, then Maurice Hall scored from 3 yards out to make it 28-14 at intermission. The second TD was set up by a 62-yard pass from Jaydyn Irving to Isiah Spearman. “Huge win,” Hayward coach Vrgil Hart said. “We’re really excited.” Hall had a huge game, rushing 14 times for 134 yards and three scores. He also caught three passes for 30 yards. Spearman caught two passes for 78 yards and a TD. Irving completed nine of 17 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown. Hayward’s defense was led by Sir Gabourel, who had three tackles for negative yardage. Ferguson and Juliani Taylor had interceptions. – Mike Lefkow 

East Bay

Chugiak-Alaska 45, Encinal 6

Chugiak, hailing from a town an hour outside of Anchorage, led 21-0 after one quarter and never looked back. Encinal coach Derrick Lyons called the game a “learning experience.” Jets senior Darren Olsen threw for 137 yards. Favorite target Donovan Heins caught two passes for 81 yards and the team’s lone touchdown. Chugiak rushed for 270 yards, with junior Cooper Scherffius running for three TDs. Chugiak kicker Landon Bobo made a 47-yard field goal. Encinal (0-1) travels to Archie Williams next Saturday.  – Joseph Dycus

Dublin 42, Berkeley 7

Just how good will Dublin be in former Raider Napoleon Kaufman’s second year as the Gaels’ coach? “The next four weeks will tell,” said Kaufman, whose team has upcoming games against Vanden, Heritage and Windsor in that stretch. The Gaels looked very good against Berkeley, scoring 14 points in each of the first three quarters and leading 42-0 before the visitors finally got into the end zone. Andre Armendariz scored Dublin’s first two TDs on runs of 4, 9 and 1 yards. Quarterback Lincoln Trias accounted for two TDs, the first on a 1-yard run, the second being an 81-yard pass to Rome Raymore for six. Thunder Hazen finished the fireworks for Dublin by taking a fumble 44 yards to the house. Elijah Edwards scored Berkeley’s lone touchdown. – Mike Lefkow 

Monte Vista 49, Foothill 23

Ian Ondricek threw for three touchdowns, Torin Dunphy rushed for two and Monte Vista dominated Foothill at home in Danville. The result gave Joe Wingert his first win as Monte Vista’s coach. He said of his team, “They kept fighting the whole game and I know (Foothill’s) head coach well who’s been doing a great job. We got the run game going in the second half to seal the deal.” Caden Boscia added two receiving touchdowns and also ran in for a score for Monte Vista. Foothill (0-1) will travel to Castro Valley next week while Monte Vista will host Archbishop Riordan. – Nathan Canilao

South Bay/Peninsula

Bellarmine 6, Sobrato 0

In a defensive duel, Bellarmine held the line just a little bit firmer as the Bells picked up their first varsity win in two seasons after going 0-10 for the first time in school history. Kicker Micah Robinson was the offensive star for Bellarmine, booting two field goals of at least 35 yards to seal the win. Del Mar 37, Harbor 22

Quarterback Eli Lenihan ran for 65 yards and three touchdowns in Del Mar’s veer attack and threw one touchdown pass to Gavin Hunt. Senior running back Aidan Rock turned 19 carries into 119 yards and a touchdown, and Nico Collins grabbed two interceptions as Del Mar won its season opener. The Dons will play host to Santa Clara on Friday. – Joseph Dycus

Leigh 41, Leland 15

Leigh’s Charlie Lyon went 14 for 20 with 218 yards and two touchdown passes to lead the Longhorns to a season-opening win, spoiling Anthony Herrera’s first game as Leland’s coach. Blake Zanger rushed for 170 yards on 10 carries with two TDs, including an 82-yarder, and Miles Huntington had rushing TDs of 19 and 57 yards and 58 yards receiving to lead Leigh. Toby Lauer added a 73-yard TD catch, and Callahan Milroy had a 28-yard TD reception for the Longhorns. Ashkan Sahba was 4 for 4 on PATs. Cole Canter caught two TD passes for Leland, both from QB Phil Artincescu. — Christian Babcock

Lincoln-San Jose 37, Willow Glen 36

Lincoln avenged a season-opening loss to Willow Glen last year with a thrilling win at home. Leo Molina kicked a 41-yard field goal with 12 seconds left to give the Lions the win. Kyan Phillips had three rushing TDs, 149 yards and a 40-yard scoop-and-score. Michael Whitelaw caught three passes for 70 yards and a TD. Johnny Medina had 15 carries for 76 yards. Lucas Martinez added eight carries for 65 yards. QB Luca Papoulias went 6 for 15 with a TD and an interception. Willow Glen QB Aiden Akery was 19 for 24 with 239 yards passing and four TDs. Chris Amann, Gavin Ferraro, Riley McKee and Aidan Haskell each had a TD catch for Willow Glen. Jaysean McKinstry had a fumble recovery and interception. Matias Verapinto and Wyatt Lewis also recovered fumbles and Caiden Morefield had a sack for the Rams. — Christian Babcock

MacDonald 28, Santa Clara 6

One year after beginning its first varsity season with a 40-0 loss to Santa Clara, MacDonald got revenge on the road. Isaiah Tela had two rushing TDs while Moussa Fall and JR Leonard each added one for the Condors. Pablo Guzman added two interceptions for MacDonald. Damian Lopez had a two-yard rushing TD for Santa Clara’s only score. — Christian Babcock

Monta Vista 34, Andrew Hill 6

Monta Vista ran all over Hill in a lopsided win on Thursday. Justin Chaahoub rushed for 139 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries while Graham Ischo had 203 yards and a score on 18 carries. For good measure, senior Rocco Ling added 103 yards. Kingston Jourdan, Elijah Daniher and Krish Kotecha each had a sack in the win. – Nathan Canilao

Mountain View 46, Palo Alto 44

Mountain View pulled out a thriller in Palo Alto. Stephen Messner kicked the winning 28-yard field goal with 9.4 seconds left after Palo Alto took the lead with 50 seconds to go. QB Ishan Devarapalli threw two TD passes for Mountain View. Dom Kristof was the game’s leading rusher and had two TDs. Paly QB Justin Fung threw five TD passes and ran for another. Clement Romanski caught three TD passes, including one for 75 yards on a fly sweep pop pass. Mack Reller and Kacey Washington also had TD catches for Paly. Washington and Nathan Rodriguez ran in two-point conversions. — Christian Babcock

Milpitas 26, Oak Grove 19

Quarterback Jonah Mati threw a pair of first-half touchdowns to freshman Ayden Guglielmelli to lead the host Trojans. Ricky Miramontes, rated one of the better kickers in the Bay Area, added field goals of 30 and 43 yards. Oak Grove struck first on a 27-yard pass from Jordan McCoy to Steven Grijalva. The Trojans answered with three straight touchdowns. Mati and Guglielmelli hooked up on passes of 47 and 6 yards, and Esene Head raced 70 yards to make it 20-6. Noah Vierra’s 2-yard scamper for Oak Grove made it 20-12 with five minutes to go before intermission, but Miramontes booted his 30-yard field goal to make it 23-12 at the break. Oak Grove closed to 26-19 and got the ball back inside its own 30 with just over three minutes left, but the Milpitas defense shut the door. – Mike Lefkow

Woodside 44, Westmont 0

Woodside rolled over Westmont in workmanlike fashion to start its season on the road. Daniel Torres had three rushing TDs, Alex Valencia added two more and JJ Lange chipped in one. Manny Navarro made Woodside’s lone field goal. The Wildcats will hit the road again next week to face Mountain View. Westmont will travel to take on Fremont-Sunnyvale. — Christian Babcock
