The 49ers unveiled a new look on Thursday morning with a week to go before the NFL opens its season.
They are back in black.
As part of the league’s Rivalries initiative in partnership with Nike, teams in the NFC West and AFC East will have alternate uniforms to wear against a divisional opponent in 2025.
The Niners’ version is a black jersey with a new black helmet, black pants and other accents to make it different from their traditional format for their red-and-white jerseys. The numbers are in the team’s old-school saloon font in red with gold outline and black drop shadow, while a gold script reading “Faithful” is on the chest above the numbers.
Fans will have to wait quite a while to see the new look on the field as the Niners won’t wear the black uniforms until Week 18 against the Seahawks.

The 49ers previously had a black version of their traditional jersey, which they wore in the 2010s but they have not worn since 2017.
In recent years, the 49ers have worn red and white throwback uniforms from their 1994 season, with a drop shadow on the numbers and white pants rather than their normal gold.
