MILLBRAE — Authorities on Friday arrested a Peninsula man on suspicion of breaking into a Millbrae retirement community and stealing a cellphone and a package.

The break-in happened around 1:15 a.m. in the 200 block of Chadbourne Avenue, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect ran from staff members, but deputies found him a few blocks away, authorities said.

Deputies used video evidence and witness statements to identify the suspect as a 19-year-old San Mateo man. A stolen cellphone and package were also found in his possession, authorities said.

The man was arrested and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City on charges of burglary and mail theft.
