In an online fundraiser, the family of Alina Safi characterized her as a “gentle soul” and said she was “known for her radiant smile, her respectful nature and her dream of building a future that would make her family proud.”

The fundraiser received about $7,300 in its first three days.

The crash happened about 4:40 p.m. on Ygnacio Valley Road just east of Oak Grove Road, police said in a statement. Four others, including at least one child, were hospitalized. The child went by air to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland.

Police have not provided updates on the conditions of any of those hospitalized. They have not said how the crash happened or why, citing the investigation.

A person who happened upon the crash scene took a dog that also was in one of the vehicles to an emergency veterinarian for treatment. Police have not said whether the dog survived.

In a message to the Mount Diablo High community, Principal Markell McCain said Alina “was a valued and vibrant member of our school, and her loss is felt deeply by students, staff and families alike.”

“Allie was a gentle soul,” the fundraising statement said. Her “heart was filled with kindness, compassion and love for everyone around her.”
