NEWARK — A suspect was being sought in a Tuesday evening road-rage related shooting of a driver on Highway 84, the California Highway Patrol said.
The CHP said it got a report about 5:28 p.m. Tuesday that a two-vehicle collision had occurred in the area of eastbound Highway 84 west of Interstate 880 and that a witness said they had heard what they believed were gunshots following the crash.
The CHP searched for the vehicles but could not find them.

As officers were searching, a hospital contacted the CHP’s Golden Gate Communications Center and reported that a person had just walked in with a gunshot wound to their arm. It was later determined the person was the victim of the shooting and was able to drive themselves to the hospital. No other information about the person or their condition has been released.
The CHP has not provided additional details yet about what happened. It also has not yet released any information about the shooter or what kind of vehicle they were in.
Eastbound lanes of Highway 84 were shut down from about 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. while CHP investigators searched for evidence.
