Police said they arrested the motorist on suspicion of driving under the influence following the 4 a.m. flight from the second floor of the downtown parking garage at 160 Crescent Drive. The driver did not sustain any injuries, and nobody else was in the area because of the time of morning, police said.

“There is no open space” for a car to ease its way into falling off the second floor, Pleasant Hill police Sgt. Mike Hurlbut said in describing the crash. “It went through a little pillar or some pipes.”

Hurlbut said police are unlikely to determine how fast the car was going when it left the building because of how much the car slowed down before striking the obstacles. Hurlbut said there was nothing indicating it was done intentionally.

“For a car falling off the second floor, there was really not that much damage,” he said. “The driver was contacted outside the vehicle but was fully conscious and physically fine.”

The garage is located directly across the street from a movie theater and is adjacent to several businesses.
