A San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy was arrested Tuesday, Aug. 5, and has been charged with multiple counts of extortion and soliciting bribes.

Cameron Romo was charged with three felony counts each of extortion and soliciting a bribe after a citizen complaint in June 2024 accusing the deputy of committing crimes while on duty with the Hesperia station, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
After the complaint, Romo was placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation, which later determined he had committed “multiple criminal acts” while working, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The Sheriff’s Department declined to comment on the nature of the charges, filed on Monday, Aug. 4.
Romo was arrested, booked and released several hours later in lieu of $90,000 bail. He was placed on unpaid leave beginning Tuesday, Aug. 5, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Romo had worked as a deputy for the Sheriff’s Department since September 2020 and was assigned to the Hesperia station in August 2021.
An attorney for Romo was not listed in San Bernardino County Superior Court’s online records as of Tuesday afternoon.
