Five Bay Area residents arrested for allegedly posing as FBI agents to rob Oregon shipping company

SAN FRANCISCO — Five Bay Area residents were indicted by a federal grand jury Tuesday for allegedly conspiring to disguise themselves as FBI agents — complete with zip-tie handcuffs and a vehicle with flashing red and blue lights — to rob a reshipping businesss in Oregon of 200 iPhones and five cameras, prosecutors said.

Cankun He, 31, Hailong Ma, 30, Robert Maynard, 41, Yuxiang Wei, 25, and Jordan Cantie, 48, who are all believed to live in the Bay Area, face charges of conspiring to commit robbery, according to a press release from the Department of Justice Northern District of California. If convicted, they could face sentences of up to 20 years in prison and fines of $250,000 or twice their gain from the robbery.

The five suspects allegedly pretended to be FBI agents to rob a reshipping business located in Portland, prosecutors said.

Four of the suspects allegedly traveled from the Bay Area to Portland, prosecutors said. On April 14, two of the suspects, Maynard and Cantie, allegedly drove a vehicle into the company’s parking lot with flashing red and blue lights while wearing jackets that read “FBI” and bulletproof vests provided by Ma. When they arrived, Cantie allegedly brandished a gun as they forced the company’s employees into the building, where they were threatened and zip-tied, prosecutors said.

The men then allegedly stole 200 iPhones and five cameras, prosecutors said. They allegedly met up with the three other suspects en route back to California.

Wei, Ma and He are also accused of helping with the planning of the robbery, prosecutors added.
