OAKLAND — An Oakland police officer accused of driving drunk while meeting with other officers nearly two years ago recently accepted a plea deal, which calls for him to serve three years on probation, court records show.
Trevor Harley, 46, pleaded no contest on July 24 to driving under the influence, in exchange for Alameda County prosecutors dropping an additional misdemeanor charge, as well as a driving infraction, according to court documents.
Harley was arrested Oct. 8, 2023, after he pulled up to another patrol vehicle reeking of alcohol, according to an affidavit in support of his arrest. At the time, he admitted drinking before getting behind the wheel, the records show.
State law enforcement records show Harley was an Oakland police trainee from November 2021 to April 2022, when he became a full-time officer.
His arrest was thrust into public view when then-Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price held a press conference in October 2024 imploring Oakland police leaders to develop “clear policies” regarding officers’ use of alcohol. Her demands also appeared to reference the 2023 arrests of another Oakland officer, Nathaniel Walker III, on similar charges.
On Feb. 18, Walker pleaded no contest in the case, amid allegations by California State Patrol investigators that he drove drunk on his way home from work in spring 2023, three months before other highway patrol officers say had been driving his police vehicle while intoxicated, according to court records.
A roughly 15-year veteran of the police force, Walker was sentenced to 12 days in jail in the case, though he also appeared to be eligible to for a weekend work program, the records show. He also received three years on probation.
