Local and federal authorities boarded a plane at the San Francisco International Airport and arrested its pilot Saturday evening amid a monthslong child sex crimes investigation, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies and agents with the Department of Homeland Security pulled 34-year-old Rustom Bhagwagar from the plane he had just landed Saturday at the airport and later booked him into a Contra Costa County jail, the sheriff’s office announced Monday.
The raid on the plane happened at about 9:35 p.m. that evening, after investigators learned he was flying into the airport.
Bhagwagar remained held on $5 million bail early Monday afternoon on suspicion of five counts of oral copulation with a child under 10 years of age, the sheriff’s office said.
Sheriff’s detectives opened a sex crimes investigation against Bhagwagar in April.
Few details were available early Monday afternoon about the allegations against Bhagwagar, who lives in Florida. No charges appeared in Contra Costa County’s public criminal case filing system, and a call to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office was not immediately returned.
