A woman who pleaded guilty in a deadly crime spree in Marin and San Francisco has lost an appeal over her 50-year sentence.
Lila Alligood, 28, was one of three people convicted of murdering Steve Carter on a Fairfax trail and Audrey Carey in Golden Gate Park during a pair of robberies in 2015. They were arrested in Portland with the vehicle they stole from Carter, belongings they stole from Carey and the gun used in the homicides, authorities said.

Morrison Lampley, the gunman, received 100 years to life. An accomplice, Sean Angold, who became a prosecution witness against his codefendants, got 15 years to life.

In 2022, a lawyer for Alligood filed a petition for a new sentence. The basis was a relatively new state law allowing people convicted of first-degree murder to seek lesser sentences under certain circumstances. The criteria include not being the “actual” killer, and not being a “major participant” in the crime and acting with reckless indifference to human life.
A Marin County judge denied the petition. Alligood appealed to the 1st District Court of Appeal in San Francisco, alleging errors by the Marin judge.
In a ruling issued on July 15, a unanimous three-judge panel rejected the appeal, finding no errors by the lower court.
“Substantial evidence supports the trial court’s findings that Alligood is guilty of both murders under current law,” Associate Justice Marla Miller wrote in the ruling.
Alligood’s appellate lawyer, Kyle Gee, did not respond to a request for comment.
Alligood is incarcerated at the Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla.
Carter was a 67-year-old resident of San Geronimo. He was walking his dog when the killers ambushed him.
