In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the California Highway Patrol in Solano County carried out a high-risk traffic stop that led to the arrest of a suspect believed to be involved in a freeway shooting that took place earlier in the day in Oakland.

According to a statement released by CHP officials on Facebook, officers were patrolling Interstate 80 in the city of Vacaville when they noticed a white Chrysler Crossfire traveling at high speeds and driving erratically near Midway Road. The vehicle’s behavior immediately raised red flags for the officers, who initiated the high-risk stop.
As the vehicle was being stopped, the officers observed the driver discarding multiple items from the car. CHP described the situation as highly dynamic and potentially dangerous, with officers responding swiftly to ensure the safety of everyone on the road.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the vehicle was connected to an earlier freeway shooting that occurred in Oakland that same morning. Details of that incident were not released, however the discovery prompted a coordinated and rapid response from multiple CHP divisions, including officers from both the Solano and Oakland areas.
A thorough search of the area near the traffic stop, as well as the interior of the vehicle, yielded significant evidence, the CHP said. Officers recovered three high-capacity magazines and a Glock pistol. In addition, multiple shell casings were found inside the car.
The driver, whose identity has not yet been released pending further investigation, was taken into custody on suspicion of multiple felony charges. CHP officials have not disclosed further details about the exact nature of the charges.
In a statement, the CHP praised the swift and coordinated effort of their officers, calling it an example of “outstanding police work” that exemplified the agency’s commitment to public safety as it “led to the capture of a dangerous individual and helped advance our mission of Safety, Service and Security.”
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
