
CASTROVILLE – A 17-year-old juvenile has been arrested for murder by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and a search is ongoing for a second juvenile suspect believed to be armed and dangerous, prompting law enforcement to release his name, photograph and physical description in the interest of public safety.

The second suspect, Isaiah Rodriguez, 17, is currently wanted for murder, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He is described as a male, 6-feet tall, 150 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes, and known to wear glasses. The individual remains at large. According to the Sheriff’s Office it has reason to believe that releasing this information will assist in their apprehension and protect the safety of the public.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information on the whereabouts of Rodriguez to contact Detective Christina Scariot at (831) 253-6076 or Detective Sergeant James Day at (831) 597-0065. Information can be provided anonymously by going to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office web page, mcso.countyofmonterey.gov and selecting “Submit a Crime Tip.”

The Sheriff’s Office said if and when the suspect is apprehended or the threat to public safety no longer exists, the agency will cease any further dissemination of the juvenile’s identifying information, as required by law.
On June 26, Marcelino Calixto Pastrana, 27 of Castroville, was shot, along with a second victim, a 17-year-old male from Salinas, behind the Castroville Market on Merritt Street. Pastrana later died at an area hospital, and the second victim was left in critical condition.
On July 16, Monterey County Sheriff’s Detectives, assisted by United States Marshals, were able to locate and arrest a 17-year-old male juvenile at an apartment along the 10600-Block of Axtell Street in Castroville. He has been booked into the Monterey County Juvenile Hall on one count of murder, attempted murder, attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit a felony, and gang enhancement charges.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office thanked the United States Marshals, Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team, Watsonville Police Department, and the Monterey Peninsula Regional Special Response Unit for their assistance in locating and apprehending the first suspect and in the execution of the search warrants obtained.
