Vallejo suffered a homicide on July 5 and the Vallejo Police Department is asking for the public’s help in solving the crime.
The homicide took place last Saturday at around 1:36 a.m. on the 400 block of Admiral Callaghan Lane. During that time a bullet went through the wall of the bedroom belonging to 46-year-old Courtney Whitney, at the residence near Interstate 80. Whitney is a mother of five.

Vallejo Police Department Public Information Officer Rashad Hollis didn’t want to call the fatal bullet a stray bullet as of Friday afternoon, as the investigation hasn’t yet determined if the fatal shot came from two people shooting at each other, or if the shot was a targeted one. The homicide was Vallejo’s eighth of 2025.
The Vallejo Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying any relevant activity that may have occurred on eastbound Interstate 80, particularly between Tennessee Street and Redwood Parkway, during the hours of 1:25 a.m. and 1:35 a.m. that morning.
“We’re looking for any witnesses that may have seen a flash equivalent to fire, any kind of road rage or anything else that didn’t appear normal around that time,” Hollis said. “If there is any resident or business in the area that has any kind of surveillance camera pointed east in the area (Hollis said the bullet was traveling east) then we’d like to see it.”
Hollis said that the number of calls being placed to the city’s police and fire departments that weekend isn’t the reason a suspect hasn’t been caught yet.
“Any holiday can either be the best day or the worst day,” Hollis said. “But do we expect it to be a difficult day? Do we expect a massive amount of phone calls on July 4, New Year’s Eve, Christmas and Halloween. Yes, that is something we expect.”
