Tom Brady’s rep has tried to set the record straight after a report claimed that the retired NFL star wasn’t interested in dating “Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara because he thinks she’s “too old.”
“Tom never said, nor would he ever say, anything like this. It is pure fiction,” Brady’s representative told People Thursday.
Speculation about a “summer romance” between the 47-year-old former quarterback and Vergara, who turned 53 on Thursday, first surfaced when they were seen getting friendly during a recent star-studded outing aboard Ritz Carlton’s new superyacht, the Luminara, in early July, People reported.
From this angle, the improper fit for Sofia Vergara is glaring, making it seem as if she doesn’t fit into the top of her dress at the Emmy Awards on September 17, 2017 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images)
Page Six quoted an insider who said that Brady asked if he could sit next to Vergara at dinner on the yacht. On her Instagram, Vergara also shared a photo of the two at dinner. The two-night luxury voyage cruise began in Rome and included drone shows and performances by Ellie Goulding, Sting and Janelle Monae.
After the cruise, Brady and Vergara continued hanging out in Ibiza, the Spanish island and celebrity summer hotspot, according to Page Six.
A source for the Daily Mail said that any romance that Brady enjoyed with Vergara would be “short-lived” at best, as the seven-time Super Bowl champion is not looking for a relationship following his 2022 divorce from supermodel Gisele Bundchen.
“Tom loves being single and is enjoying his summer before he starts working again and he is not looking for a relationship,” the source said, referring to Brady’s return to work as a sports analyst for “NFL on Fox.”
In addition, Brady would never see Vergara as a woman he’d date long-term, said the Daily Mail, who explained rather bluntly: “He sees Sofia as beautiful and his type, but he isn’t going to start a relationship with her as she is older and stuck in her ways.”
It’s not surprising that Brady’s rep denied he said such a thing. It seems that the San Mateo native doesn’t want to come off as sexist, ungentlemanly or typical of a certain kind of celebrity male who has reached middle age and who can only consider a woman as a potential partner if she’s not “older” and not so “stuck in her ways.”
Meanwhile, Vergara appears to fit into a pattern for Brady right now — to be causally linked to high-profile women. Since he split up with Bundchen, with whom he shares two children, the longtime New England Patriots player has supposedly gotten flirty, or more, with multiple famous women, including models Irina Shayk and Brooks Nader, and actress Sydney Sweeney.
Meanwhile, there’s no indication that Vergara is looking for more than “fun” herself, following her 2024 divorce from actor Joe Manganiello in 2024. For her own part, the “Modern Family” alum also has been linked to at least one high-profile man: F1 race star Lewis Hamilton.
