There will be a parade, the ringing of the Liberty Bell by community members dressed as historical figures, group singing and free popsicles and U.S. flags. There will also be a patriotic tableau organized by Holly Fidrych, daughter of “Mr. Saratoga” Jack Mallory.

The event will start at 9:30 a.m. with some patriotic music played by the McCartysville Wind Band, according to Tadashi Okuno, who organized the band last year. In 2023, the band consisted of 75 people and was made up entirely of volunteers, according to a Facebook post by the Saratoga Historical Foundation.

Kevin Moran Park is at 12415 Scully Ave. The event will end around 11 a.m. as the band plays a series of Sousa marches while children parade around the park.

Art for All Ages

A joint exhibit featuring art made by children and independent artists will be shown at Aegis Gallery in Saratoga in July.

The artwork was created by elementary schoolchildren who partnered with the San Jose-based nonprofit Muindi Foundation for a free Kids Art Day. Their paintings will be shown alongside the work of 11 independent Bay Area artists.

The nonprofit held the event in April with the goal of exposing children to the arts and encouraging them to use art to build their creativity, confidence and mental health.

“With so many schools eliminating art programs for kids, this is an opportunity to open children’s eyes to a whole new area they haven’t been exposed to before,” said Muindi Foundation Co-Founder and Executive Director Serena Muindi. “We’re excited about the partnership with Aegis to enrich children.”

Professional artist and Aegis Gallery President Christine Oliver guided the children in making their art for “Art for All Ages: A Day at the Beach.” The exhibit runs July 2-27, with an artists’ reception on July 5, 4-7 p.m., at Aegis Gallery, 14531 Big Basin Way # 2.

“This is a full circle moment for the kids who created art at the free April event,” said Oliver. “We’re proud to be able to open a door to art and artwork for them that could change their lives forever.”

The Muinidi Foundation hosts programming that provides support, resources, education and mentorship for low-income and underserved elementary age children.
